Australia Day:

Australia Day is an annual celebration and public holiday observed by all Australian States and Territories on the 26th of Janurary. In contemporary Australia, the holiday is marked by the presentation of the 'Australian of the Year' Awards on Australia Day Eve, announcement of the Australia Day Honours list and addresses from the Governor-General and Prime Minister. With community festivals, concerts and citizenship ceremonies, the day is celebrated in large and small communities and cities around the nation. Australia Day has become the biggest annual civic event in Australia.

Survival Day:

To Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the 26th of January commemorates the invasion of Australia. On this day, Indigenous people acknowledge the past, present and future of their culture within Australia and celebrate their strength as a people.

On the 26th of January 1992 the first Survival Day Concert was held in Sydney. Since then, annual events have taken place all around Australia celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage. The events showcase all aspects of indigenous culture, including music, dance, food, language, politics, literature, and arts and crafts and are used as an opportunity to educate and share Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage.
